Dr. Nelly Mañay (PhD) is Chemical Toxicologist, Full Professor of Toxicology and Director of Specialized Centre of Chemical Toxicology (CEQUIMTOX), Faculty of Chemistry, University of the Republic (UdelaR), Montevideo-Uruguay. She is a recognized scientific researcher both in Chemistry and Geosciences areas, belonging to the Development of Basic Sciences (PEDECIBA) Program, and the National Agency of Research and Innovation (ANII) Researcher System of the Ministry of Education and Culture.
Dr Mañay has been involved in Medical Geology scientific activities since 2002, firstly within the working group, and afterwards as a founding member of International Medical Geology Association (IMGA) being one of its counselors and elected as biosciences co-chair of its executive committee in 2011. Her main activities held in the region of Uruguay were co-coordination of the South American Division of Medical Geology, inclusion of regular Medical Geology courses in the University curricula, the 3rd. Hemispheric Conference on Medical Geology chair organization and member of MEDGEO conferences scientific committees. She promoted Medical Geology in several short courses and seminars in the region countries and got IMGA distinguished service award for exemplary service to IMGA and Medical Geology.
She has been responsible for the creation of a Medical Geology research group in Uruguay and the consolidation of the Medical Geology Uruguayan Chapter approved in 2010. During the last decade, she chaired several Medical Geology regional and national scientific events in Uruguay and many Medical Geology sessions in international scientific meetings held in many countries being an invited lecturer.
Prof. Dr. Nelly Mañay was elected to the position of Chairperson of the International Medical Geology Association in august 2013 and re-elected for a second period in 2015.
